A little reference to the short story The scythe, which is definitely one of Bradbury's good ones!
A man moves with his family to a farm where his only job is to reap the crop daily. For this, he is being equiped with a scythe that has above quoted words engraved into it. Strangely enough, the crop grows back over night, so the work is never done, yet manageable. It takes a few weeks, however, until the man realizes that it's not just crop he is reaping, but human lives. He finds out about this when it's his wife's and children's turn.
There is no happy ending.
